Heading to Roatan

Friends of ours, Richard and Bethany, from Key West had planned a trip to meet up with Bryan and Angie on Stray Cat in Roatan.  The weather was working out for us to sail there and meet so we did just that.
We haven’t traveled with the Romo’s since Belize and we were excited to see them and to meet up while their Key West visitors were there.  The sail was easy and the day gorgeous.  We did see a strangely familiar sight on the horizon during our sail to Roatan.  This boat coming from the west was intrigued with us as well and changed its course to come closer.  Coming at us was almost the exact image of Gualby circa 2008.  It was a Fountaine Pajot, same year as us, with no mast, no rigging, homemade scoops, same colors, same beat up condition coming right at us with a friendly guy at the helm waving crazily at us with a big grin on his face.  Conor and him exchanged a few words of admiration at each others boats and the other captain managed to get it across that he had seen pictures of our boat from a sail maker he is trying to coordinate with from the U.S., Mack Sails.  The same company that we bought our sails from and who did the rigging work on our boat.  We yelled “Good luck!“ and waved good bye as we passed each other going opposite directions.  Conor and I looked at each other and I thought, it’s a crazy, small world.

We spotted Stray Cat on a mooring ball off of the west end of Roatan and guided our boat through the reef pass and grabbed a mooring ball close by.  That was an easy meet up! That night we had drinks and laughs with the original Tortilla Flotilla plus our fun friends Richard and Bethany.  The following day all the boats, with a perfect beam to wind, sailed south to Cayo Cochinos.
